Make Your Videos Show for Everyone, Even iPad users!

One of the things that people have to realise is that the web is changing at an extremely fast rate. While we would consider to be standard practice today won’t be tomorrow. The perfect example of this is the use of Flash players to show video over the Internet. With the release of the iPad, Apple flatly refused to play flash anything on it. A lot of people kicked and screamed about this but Apple has stood firm. To be honest with you I think they have a point!

Why iPad got it right

html5 ipad video playerA lot of Flash apps and Flash video players use files that are way too large and bulky. This slows down the speed of the webpage and increases the time it takes to download. On mobile devices, where you might often be accessing the Internet via mobile broadband, this can be a serious pain in the backside. By blocking these files, Apple has effectively sped up those pages allowing you to get to the text much more quickly. The problem lies in the fact that it does stop you from seeing any flash games, flash interactive content, and flash video.

The iPad video answer

The funny thing is that although web developers are up in arms, the solution has been available for a while now. HTML 5 is the new web standard and HTML5 video plays on an iPad. This means that all you need to do to allow anybody to see your video content, is to play it with HTML 5 standard player. Best news is that one of the most popular on site players, JW Player has HTML 5 version.  You can see the player and everything about it at JW Player.

So if you’re dealing with an audience made up of people who are more likely to access your content via an iPhone, iPod, or iPad, then why not update your player to JW player to ensure that your message works for everyone. Just switch when you start adding your next video!

Oh, and by the way, it will still play perfectly well on any other device and you’re future proofing your content.

Please add your comments to the post or my Facebook Fan Page and I will do my best to respond. And why not try a html 5 player on your site today and get your video onto iPad?
